The Island Litter II - Week 1

December 26 - The puppies hit 1 week today, and are growing very fast!  Already they've nearly doubled their birth weight and they all seem healthy and active.  Saba loves her puppies, and gets very upset when she hears any of them cry.  She seems much better at cleaning this litter, compared to her first litter, and seems quite happy in the whelping box when they are all nursing. However, Saba has also started enjoying time outside of the box when it isn't feeding time - it seems like she just needs a "break" every so often, but she never wanders far from them.  The personality of the puppies is starting to come out, Nevis seems like the "class clown", Bart is the most snuggly, Martinique seems very confident, Aruba is very vocal and Montserrat is also quite confident.  It will be interesting to see if these personalities hold over the next several weeks. Skyland Martinique - Female, 1 lbs 8.25 oz, birth weight: 14.5 oz Saba really dotes after Martinique - she spends a lot of time cleaning her and cuddling with her after she eats. Martinique is named after the island of Martinique, one of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles.

Skyland Nevis - Male, 1 lbs 9 oz, birth weight: 13 oz Nevis seems like the silly puppy of the litter.  He can usually be found climbing over, around and through his siblings. Nevis (pronounced Neevis) is named for the island of Nevis, a 36-square-mile island lies near the top of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, about 200 miles south of Puerto Rico.

Skyland Bartholomew (Bart)- Male, 1 lbs 10.5 oz, birth weight:14.25oz Bart is our largest puppy and seems to like nothing more than just snuggling with his siblings or his humans. He's confident enough, even when held on his back. Bart is named for St. Barths, an island about 240 miles west of Puerto Rico, and is one of the Windward islands in the the Lesser Antilles..

Skyland Montserrat- Male, 1lb 9.75 oz, birth weight: 13.5 oz Montserrat seems like a very confident puppy, pulling himself around the box and exploring his world. Montserrat is named for the island of Montserrat, an island that is part of the Leeward islands of the Lesser Antilles.

Skyland Aruba- Female, 1lb 7.5 oz, birth weight: 12 oz Aruba is a very active and vocal puppy.  You certainly know when she is eating based on the sounds from the whelping box ! Aruba is named after the island of Aruba, an island in the Lesser Antilles which, along with Bonaire and Curacao are called the "ABC Islands".
